Fontwell 2m1½f Conor Ring Evan Williams 8 5:3.98 11 115 11-7 50/1
Held up in rear - headway when hit 3 out - ridden and weakened quickly before 2 out (following an enquiry into running and riding - jockey said his instructions had been to settle gelding towards the back of the field and get it to finish the contest as well as possible; he added - being mindful of the testing conditions - he purposefully took the gelding wide early on to race on what he believed would be better ground and was happy with his early position with the gelding travelling well; he continued that shortly after passing the winning post for the second time - the eventual winner had moved off his inside and when asked to make progress his gelding was unable to hold its position and had started to struggle; he added that the gelding had started to come back onto the bridle going down the hill in the back straight - before making a bad mistake at the third-lasthurdle which knocked the wind out of the gelding and resulted in it getting very tired; he further added that he gave the gelding a hands and heels ride and a few slaps down the shoulder in the home straight in order to keep the gelding going forward and continued to push it all the way to the line - but the gelding was tiring and - in his opinion - could nothave finished any closer; trainer rep's confirmed the instructions and stated that he was satisfied the ride accorded with those instructions; their explanation was noted)(op 25/1)
