Held up in rear - outpaced and pushed along 3f out - headway over 1f out - switched right inside final furlong - ran on well - not reach leaders (jockey said colt was slow into stride from a wide draw - so he dropped in hoping to reach the inside rail but was beaten to that position; he pointed out that the early pace was steady and entering the first bend it slowed further and he had to restrain and as he did not want to come wide around horses - he ended up further back than intended and had to bide his time until pace quickened approximately 3f out; from this point he immediately asked colt for effort and colt had taken a while to find top gear before staying on pleasingly in home straight - despite laying left-handed; he explained that colt is still a big green type and may appreciate a more galloping track - which was noted; vet said a post-race examination failed to reveal any abnormalities)(op 7/4)
