Held up in rear - waiting for room against far rail going easily over 2f out - not clear run repeatedly from over 1f out - switched sharply right inside final furlong - ran on final 110yds - eyecatcher (inquiry held into running and riding of gelding which was held up towards rear of field until being asked for an effort approaching final furlong whereupon gelding ran on to finish third - beaten 4 1/2l; jockey stated that his instructions had been to find cover - being mindful that this was gelding's first run over 1m2f; he explained that he was happy with being able to settle gelding in early stages as gelding had raced keenly over lesser distances previously; he continued that having ridden gelding previously he is familiar with gelding and he has to be ridden with no daylight and produced with one late run; he further stated that he had limited options inside final 1 1/2f due to a weakening rival briefly inconveniencing him and another rival switching for his run; he finished by stating that he felt he had obtained best possible placing under the circumstances)(op 12/1)
