Jennie Candlish 128 lbs 11/4 1.5 In rear - still plenty to do 2f out - headway from over 1f out - kept on inside final furlong - nearest finish (inquiry into running and riding of gelding which jumped awkwardly from talls before racing towards the rear throughout until staying on well in home straight under predominantly hands and heels riding to finish 4th of 11 - beaten 2 3/4l; vet examined gelding post-race during routine testing and had nothing to report; jockey stated that his instructions were to obtain a prominent position but be wary of hitting the front too soon on gelding; he confirmed gelding was slowly into stride after jumping away from stalls awkwardly and then after attempting to recover his position - met with interference approximately 110yds after start; this resulted in him settling much further back than intended - although he considered race tempo to be quite strong; in explaining his riding from approaching 3f out until passing 2f marker - he indicated that whilst there was a tight gap between rivals - he was reluctant to fully commit and improve his position at this stage rounding a bend due to the rider of a rival being inexperienced and she was also being shouted at by the rider of another rival - which was racing 4 wide - to get tighter to rail; jockey also stated that he had observed a rival rolling about and shifting inwards on the track towards the end of back straight which added to his concerns about going down that rider's inner; he continued by saying that approximately 2f out - he secured clear running for a short distance and commenced to ride gelding forward - however in home straight he quickly found himself behind a wall of horses and experienced difficulty in fully obtaining a clear passage until inside final furlong - a fact he had reported at scales; from this point - he was able to give gelding a flick with the whip - but ultimately gelding was left with too much ground to make up and jockey considered gelding had been unlucky in running)(op 10/3)
