Midfield on inner - no impression from 2f out (jockey was asked to explain his riding passing 1 1/2f out where he appeared to become less vigorous over a number of strides for no apparent reason; he explained that he had been instructed to produce gelding between horses when making his challenge in home straight and he had angled gelding wider off home bend in order to enable him to carry out those instructions; he added that inside 2f out a rival on his outside had started to edge left-handed which moved gelding off his intended line; this left him worried that he was at risk of becoming isolated away from main division of runners and he was therefore considering his options; however after realising he would have to surrender too much ground in order to switch right-handed around a rival and revert to coming between runners - he accepted his positioning and rode gelding out hands and heels to end of race)
